After a delay of several months, will finally hit theatres this year. The political drama also marks her debut as a director. In the film, Kangana portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her resemblance to Gandhi has got everyone’s attention. Recently, the second trailer for the film was released, which gives one more insight into how challenging the Emergency era was and how Indira played a crucial role in everything.
BollywoodLife’s Pooja Darade spoke to about her upcoming big release. I asked Kangana about why it is important for the audience to revisit the era through her film. The actress gave an honest answer, stating how it is important to have “intellectual” films in today’s time. The Queen actress said, “We also don’t have to lower the bar of intelligence with every film. There are far more and enough films made for, you know, what you call a mass audience, and enough of that. With all the newfound love for the horror comedy, they will just go there and just watch mindlessly. There has to be some kind of film for which there is a variety of genres. We cannot always be just bhedchaal, chale hue hai. So it’s important to think about our thoughts. It is important to take risks, and it is also important to engage audiences on a little bit of an intellectual level. Every film can’t be just for rickshaw wallahs. So we also need different, various audiences and educated children coming in. ”
Further in this entertainment news, Ranaut added, “Like was completely for grandparents and children. And this one is also for you; know, go with your family; it’s the before the Republic weekend and see about the constitution. You know why every film has to be all the item numbers and beating of goons and, you know, just for that seethi and guthka kind of crowd.” Kangana Ranaut’s co-star Shreyas Talpade, who plays Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the political drama, agreed to Kangana’s statement and said that it is important to have conversations around such films.
Meanwhile, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, and Mahima Chaudhry. The movie is slated to hit theatres on January 17, 2025.
