Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have roped in Vidarbha’s spin-bowling all-rounder as a replacement for Smaran Ravichandran for the remainder of the IPL 2025.
Notably, Ravichandran was the replacement player for Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who was ruled out due to a shoulder injury, the same issue that had troubled him before the 2023 ODI World Cup. Zampa, who featured in two matches for SRH as an Impact Player, returned home after reporting shoulder soreness. SRH had initially brought in Karnataka’s young batter as his replacement, but an unfortunate injury sidelined him too, making way for Dubey’s IPL call-up.

Dubey, who has been signed for INR 30 lakh, is coming off a record-breaking Ranji Trophy season. The 22-year-old left-arm spinner had a phenomenal 2024–25 domestic campaign, finishing with a historic 69 wickets, the most in a single Ranji season. He surpassed the previous record of 68 set by Ashutosh Aman in 2018–19.
Dubey’s contribution was crucial in Vidarbha’s victorious run to their third Ranji Trophy title, secured based on a first-innings lead against Kerala in the final. His bowling brilliance, including seven five-wicket hauls, saw him join the elite company of Jaydev Unadkat and Bishan Singh Bedi. Notably, Dubey also contributed with the bat, scoring 472 runs including five half-centuries.
The Pune-born, who also featured in Chennai’s TNCA league, had the chance to interact with Ravi Ashwin and hone his skills on spin-friendly tracks. Despite being overlooked for the Duleep Trophy, he returned this season with more confidence and wickets under his name. Meanwhile, SRH have not had the greatest of the seasons as they are currently positioned at the ninth spot in the points table.
