Delhi Capitals ended their with a six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Match 66 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, May 24. The victory ended a five-match winless streak (including a no-result) for DC.
Batting first, PBKS posted 206/8 in their quota of 200 overs. They were powered by skipper Shreyas Iyer’s 53 and Marcus Stoinis’ 44*, who made a thunderous appearance in his 16-ball stay at the crease. Mustafizur Rahman (4-0-33-3) stood out with the ball for the visiting side in Jaipur, as they need 208 runs to win the match, in what would be a consolatory victory.
KL Rahul provided DC a brisk start with his 35 off just 21. Karun Nair’s 44 (27) kept his side in the hunt during the middle phase. From there, rose to the occasion with a match-winning unbeaten knock of 58 off 25 balls. Rizvi’s scintillating knock comprised three fours and five sixes.
The Uttar Pradesh batter was also adjudged Player of the Match for his blistering half-century that stormed Delhi Capitals through to the target set by the Shreyas Iyer-led side. He felt good to have received the award as a testament to the hard yards he has put in over the last couple of months or so.
“Feels good to get the Player of the Match. Have been working hard for 2–3 months about my game. I didn’t have confidence before that I’d do well, but it has come after this innings. When I went in, we needed more than 120. I took 4–5 balls, knew that the wicket was good, and then played my shots,” he said at the post-match presentation.
PBKS had the opportunity of topping the points table. However, this loss dents their chances of finishing in the top two by a bit. Their next clash is scheduled to be against Mumbai Indians at the same venue on Monday, May 26.
