Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) hopes of reaching the playoffs were quashed on Monday, May 19, as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets in front of their home fans at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
After Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first, LSG openers Aiden Markram (61) and Mitchell Marsh (65) forged an outstanding 115-run stand. However, SRH pulled things back nicely in the second half of the innings, with Eshan Malinga bowling a brilliant spell. Nicholas Pooran’s 26-ball 45 helped LSG get past the 200-run mark as they posted 205/7.
In reply, SRH lost the wicket of Atharva Taide in the second over as debutant William O’Rourke sent him packing. However, Abhishek Sharma scored a swashbuckling half-century to considerably reduce the required run rate. Ishan Kishan dropped anchor and scored 35 before throwing his wicket away.
Digvesh Rathi bowled his heart out but didn’t get the support he would have wanted from his fellow bowlers. Heinrich Klaasen scored a 28-ball 47 to take his team to the brink. Kusal Mendis also played a fine hand, scoring a 21-ball 32 before he had to walk off the field retired hurt. Aniket Verma and Nitish Kumar Reddy took the visitors home in 18.2 overs.
Key Moments from LSG vs SRH, Match 61 of IPL 2025
1. LSG openers impress again
Markram and Marsh did what they have been doing on several occasions for LSG this season. They forged a 115-run stand inside 11 overs and it seemed that LSG would stroll past the 200-run mark. However, things changed drastically after Marsh was dismissed for a 39-ball 65.

2. Eshan Malinga and Co. help SRH bounce back; Pant fails cheaply yet again
It seemed that SRH’s shoulders were starting to drop as the Marsh-Markram partnership was flourishing. Ishan Kishan and Aniket Verma squandered a few chances to break the stand and this didn’t help their cause. However, debutant Harsh Dubey drew first blood as he sent Marsh back to the hut. Eshan Malinga bowled a remarkable spell, picking up the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni. The LSG skipper could only manage seven runs as his dismal form with the bat continued. Malinga finished with excellent figurs of 2/28 in his four overs.

3. Abhishek Sharma’s blitzkrieg makes 206-run target look like a cakewalk
Abhishek Sharma was at his fluent best on Monday, hitting boundaries all around the ground. He slammed four fours and six sixes during his knock of 59 off 20 balls. Ravi Bishnoi bowled the seventh over and he was hit for four consecutive maximums by the Punjab all-rounder.
