Soha Ali Khan loves to eat healthy. The secret? Being a “boring person when it comes to food.” “People who really know me will tell you that I am a boring person when it comes to food. I actually have the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, almost. So, (for) my breakfast, I start with fenugreek water, and I have cut fruit. There’s papaya, there’s melon, and an apple. I have a slice of really nice gluten-free avocado toast with cheese or jam,” Khan told Pinkvilla.
Her diet also includes having a specific number of . “I have 10 almonds. You should have one almond for every 10 pounds you weigh. I weigh about 110, so about 10 or 11. That’s very specific.”
Her lunch comprises “some kind of vegetable, some kind of lentil, brown rice, and because I am non-vegetarian, chicken or fish.”
“Dinner is pretty much the same. But I do have some kind of salad or leafy stuff at night. And again, tandoori chicken is on the menu,” added Khan, 46.
Taking a cue from her revelation, let’s explore if the number of one should have is tied to one’s weight.
Almonds can be a beneficial addition to a balanced diet, especially for weight management, due to their nutrient profile and satiating properties. “They are rich in fibre, protein, and healthy fats, which promote feelings of fullness and can help regulate blood sugar levels, preventing cravings and overeating,” said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietician and certified diabetes educator.
Incorporating almonds into a calorie-restricted diet can lead to significant weight loss and improvements in cardiometabolic health.
According to Malhotra, a daily intake of around 30 grams (approximately 20-23 whole almonds) is effective for weight loss, balancing fibre, protein, and healthy fats. “Consuming almonds can help reduce overall energy intake by promoting satiety and potentially boosting . However, individual calorie needs vary, and a qualified nutrition professional can help determine the ideal daily intake for personalised weight loss goals,” said Malhotra.
While a “general recommendation of one almond for every 10 pounds of body weight is a reasonable starting point”, it’s essential to consider overall dietary needs and consult a professional for tailored advice.
“Consuming around 10 almonds daily can be a option, but portion control is crucial for maintaining a balanced diet and achieving sustainable weight loss,” said Malhotra.
