Kamal Haasan’s action spectacle Thug Life, helmed by Mani Ratnam is carrying an exceptional buzz, thanks to the impressive promotional material, particularly the trailer which has set the expectations soaring. Meanwhile, the films team addressed the Telugu media today.
Simbu called Telugu audiences as very special to him. I’ll never forget the response I got for my early film Manmadha. There won’t be any gap from now on. The OG song is coming soon. Thaman has done a fantastic job. It was a pleasure to sing for Pawan Kalyan.”
Mani Ratnam revealed his journey with Kamal from Nayakan to Thug Life. “The first time I worked with Kamal was on Nayakan. After finishing Mouna Ragam, I was at home when producer Muktha Srinivasan visited me. He handed me a cover with a video cassette inside, it was a Hindi film. He said Kamal wanted me to watch it. I told him I might not be the right fit for a Hindi film. When he returned the next day and I repeated the same, he said I should tell Kamal directly. When I met Kamal, he asked me what the issue was. I told him I had other ideas, and I pitched them to him. That’s how Nayakan happened. The same thing happened with Thug Life. One day, Kamal called me and said, ‘Let’s do a movie together.’”
Kamal Haasan stated that Mani Ratnam has evolved a lot all these years. “I was happy to meet that Mani during Nayakan, and I’m happy to meet this Mani now. Tanikella Bharani was soused to write dialogues for Indrudu Chandrudu. But that didn’t happen, although he heled us to translate the dialogues to Telugu. I request him to continue writing.”
Kamal who called Simbu as a child of cinema and thanked Abhirami for making comeback to films made interesting remarks about stardom. “Honestly, I feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, and even claustrophobic in the stardom you’ve given me. But I’ll continue trying to reach out to you, despite the stardom, and most of the time, it works when I do it from the heart. That’s how we’ve all approached this film. I promise you all that this movie will become bigger than Nayakan.
I was made a hero in Kerala, but I became a star here in Telugu. This is like a birthplace for me as a star. Please don’t call me a guru—just gurthupettukondi (remember me). Catching a thug is not easy, it takes 37 years (referring to Mani Ratnam). This film is my favorite among all that I’ve done. It took a long time to get out of this character.”
Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Nasser and Tanikella Bharani also attended the event. The Telugu version will be released through Sudhakar Reddy’s Sreshth Movies on June 5th.
