But, their relationship ended in divorce a decade or so, ago when Shalini accused him of allegations of domestic violence. Well, Shalini was also Honey Singh’s manager which caused conflict with his family.
In the documentary, said that he cannot go into detail about the out-of-court settlement that he and Shalini reached. But, he did wish her all the best in life. He spoke about his divorce and said, ‘We’ve both signed an MoU, so we can’t talk about it. But I wish her all the best in her life. I wish her a great life ahead. It’s like I said before, right? It’s all a circle. This circle, it keeps turning, keeps coming back. Everything finds balance. Like the old saying, what goes around comes around. I believe in this’.
Honey’s sister called it a difficult time for the entire family. She added saying, ‘Who all do we have to prove? Nobody will believe us because the world outside was a very difficult place and all the controversies that were happening…’. His sister further alleged that during a tour of the United States, Shalini forced him to perform. Honey’s sister said that the rapper was showing clear signs of mental illness, and was refusing to go on stage. She continued saying, ‘I was in my room. He messaged that something is not right with me. He said can you come on Skype. And then he said, ‘Mujhe please bacha lo, gudiya mujhe please bacha le‘. And then he disconnected. I was trying to reach out to Shalini. She said, ‘He has to do this show. You convince him to do this show’. I said I can’t. He told me that he isn’t feeling okay and that something bad is happening. For three hours, there was no contact with them. Three hours later, I’m told that he’s in the hospital with stitches in his head’.
During an interview with The Lallantop, Honey admitted neglecting Shalini during their marriage. He said, ‘Our relationship wasn’t very good at that time. There was a distance between us because I was travelling a lot. Things were good for the initial 9–10 months of our marriage. But then success and fame got to my head. When that happened, I neglected my family and completely lost myself in money, fame, addiction, and women. I did terrible things. I almost left Shalini and forgot about the family’.
