Among the films releasing this week, Sri Vishnu’s ‘Single’ has a clear edge in terms of hero image, casting, and overall market value. Though it doesn’t carry massive pre-release buzz, if the content clicks and early shows receive positive talk, it has the potential to get good collections. Sri Vishnu has proven this before with ‘Samajavaragamana’, which became a sleeper hit. Even though ‘Swag’ couldn’t meet expectations, it was still appreciated for its experimental nature.
Now, ‘Single’ is a clean comedy entertainer with no major risks, and the team seems confident about the outcome. In competition is ‘Shubham’, produced by Samantha, but in comparison, ‘Single’ appears to be the stronger film. Interestingly, ‘Shubham’ director Praveen created buzz with bold statements at the pre-release event, hinting at some strong content.
Another wildcard this week is the re-release of ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’, which is getting a solid promotional push from Vyjayanthi Movies. However, trade circles believe its influence might fade after the weekend.
As for ‘HIT 3: The Third Case’, it has slowed down during weekdays but may recover over the weekend. This gives ‘Single’ a chance to shine—provided it gets unanimously positive talk. The recent controversy over a dialogue mocking ‘Kannappa’ was quickly resolved with an apology from Sri Vishnu, who is now focused on ramping up promotions.
With no major releases in May, ‘Single’ & ‘Subham ‘gets a 2–3 week free run until ‘Kingdom’ arrives on May 30.
