Varun Tej’s brilliance in playing contrasting roles in distinctive subjects paid off with two of his movies receiving Gaddar awards announced by the Telangana government. His movies Kanche and Fidaa received awards for 2015 and 2017, respectively.
His film Kanche, a war-time romantic drama set against the backdrop of World War II, won the Best Feature Film award. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Kanche was lauded for its bold storytelling, historical depth, and Varun Tej’s compelling performance.
The wholesome entertainer Fidaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula, received the Second Best Feature Film award. The film was a massive commercial and critical success, with Varun Tej’s portrayal of an NRI who falls in love with a spirited Telangana girl earning him wide appreciation. Both these movies which received appreciation also turned out to be blockbusters.
