Christopher Nolan’s iconic film Interstellar was re-released last Friday and opened on a huge note in India. Everyone thought that it would shatter all re-release records. But that was not the case. A small Bollywood film, which was a flop when it was originally released, emerged to be the winner among re-releases last weekend. The film was Sanam Teri Kasam.
Starring Harshavardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, Sanam Teri Kasam was released in 2016 and ended up as a flop. However, the music was a smashing hit which grew in audience over the years. Due to its music, the film gained cult status in the last nine years. Thus, it opened to a huge response upon its re-release.
According to the reports, Sanam Teri Kasam collected Rs. 15.50 crores on its first weekend, which is 170% higher than its lifetime run during the original release. The film collected Rs. 4.24 crore on Friday, Rs. 5.25 crore on Saturday and Rs. 6 crore on Sunday. It is expected to do well in the coming days too as the new releases couldn’t do well at the box office.
On the other hand, the much-aniticipated Interstellar was able to do well only in select cities. It earned Rs. 9 crores during the first weekend, with earnings of Rs. 2.4 crore on Friday, Rs. 3.25 crore on Saturday and Rs. 3.25 crore on Sunday. It is expected to close its re-release run with collections around Rs. 15 crores, which is very good for a Hollywood film in India.
Jointly, Sanam Teri Kasam and Interstellar collected over Rs. 24 crores during the opening weekend, which is higher than the new Hindi releases like Badass Ravikumar and Loveyaapa.
