A man from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu, who was posted as a medical assistant in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, died during overnight shelling by Pakistan, officials said Saturday.
Surendra Kumar is survived by his mother, wife, an 11-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.
Kumar hailed from Mahradasi village in Jhunjhunu’s Mandawa tehsil. Jhunjhunu District Collector Ramavtar Meena said, “The SP and I will meet his family to offer our condolences and also provide the necessary support and package from the state and central government.”
Meena told that Kumar died in the overnight attacks in Udhampur by Pakistan, and that he was posted at a medical dispensary at the airport.
In the Saturday morning briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Colonel Sofiya Qureshi had said that apart from targeting military bases, Pakistan also targeted medical facilities in Srinagar, Avantipura and Udhampur airbases.
She said that over 26 locations in India had been targeted, including air force stations in Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur, Bhuj, and Bhatinda, where some personnel and equipment had been harmed.
She said that “in a condemnable and unprofessional act”, Pakistan had targeted medicare centres and schools at the Srinagar, Udhampur and Avantipur airbases, adding Pakistan’s “irresponsible nature of attacking civil infrastructure has been exposed once again.”
Rajasthan president Madan Rathore said Kumar “made the supreme sacrifice while fulfilling his duty.”
“The nation will forever remain indebted to him. I offer my heartfelt tribute to martyr Surendra Kumar Moga ji,” he said.
Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha MP Brijendra Singh Ola said, “I pay my heartfelt tribute to him. His sacrifice on the path of duty will always be remembered by the nation. Our fight against terrorism will now be even more resolute and decisive. May God grant the family of this brave son the strength to bear this immense sorrow.”
