A day after Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that on the India-Pakistan conflict was not the opinion of the party, the latter on Thursday said that “he (Ramesh) is absolutely correct”.
A source in the party had on Wednesday said that Tharoor had “crossed the Laxman rekha” after his statements on the conflict became public.
In Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, Tharoor told reporters that Jairam was “absolutely correct” and that he was “not a spokesperson of the party or the government”. “… people seem to think that I have some knowledge of some of these subjects. So, they come and ask me my views. And I make it very clear… that I am expressing my personal views as an Indian, as a proud citizen. And don’t forget that my own party had declared complete solidarity with the government and the Armed forces at the beginning of this conflict.”
On Wednesday, to a question about Tharoor’s X post in which he had expressed disappointment on the way Trump announced the ceasefire, Ramesh said: “Woh unki rai hai. Jo Tharoor sahab bolte hain woh party ki rai nahi hoti hai. (That is his opinion. What Mr Tharoor says is not the opinion of the party).”
