In a candid and revealing conversation on Filmfare’s In The Ring with Filmfare, veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee opened up about her complex relationship with fellow 1970s icon Rekha, shedding light on the undercurrents of rivalry and insecurity that simmered beneath the surface of their professional interactions.
The tension between the two actresses was palpable on set as well. During the filming of Prem Bandhan (1979), directed by Ramanand Sagar, Moushumi was asked to remove her heels to match Rekha’s barefoot height. She firmly declined, stating, “I am a well-educated, affluent woman. I was born and brought up that way. Why should I take off my shoes? You manage it. Give her a stool to stand on.” This incident underscored the subtle power dynamics and the challenges of navigating professional relationships in the film industry.
