NTR’s Devara is one of the recent big hits in Telugu cinema. Directed by Koratala Siva, the film was recently released in Japan. The actor and director have been to Japan to promote the film and participated in various promotional activities, including media interviews and fan meets. Despite the hype around the promotional tour, the trade is uncertain about the film’s reception, mainly since Kalki did not perform as expected.
According to reports from the Japanese media, Devara collected approximately 11 million yen (local currency) within its first two days, attracting around 6,200 viewers to the theaters. While these numbers are decent, they fall short of what would be considered a blockbuster.
Compared to RRR (2.42 billion yen), Muthu (405 million yen), and Baahubali 2 (305 million yen), Devara: Part 1’s revenue definitely falls short.
The initial collections of Devara indicate the potential for a stronger start, especially given the pre-release anticipation. As fans await Devara 2, there are already speculations about whether it will meet or exceed expectations.
However, the timeline for the sequel remains uncertain since Jr NTR has upcoming commitments, including War 2 and a film with Prashanth Neel, followed potentially by a pan-India project with Nelson Dilip Kumar.
