The box office clash between Dhurandhar 2 and Ustaad Bhagat Singh has become a major talking point in trade circles. Both films are scheduled to hit the screens on March 19, setting the stage for an interesting clash between two highly anticipated projects.
During a recent interaction with Gulte, Harish Shankar was asked whether he sees Dhurandhar 2 as a threat to his film. Responding to the question, the director said that filmmaker Aditya Dhar is a superior filmmaker and added that both films are not exactly competing on a pan-India level. Harish also clarified that the release date of Ustaad Bhagat Singh was not entirely in his hands.
While the director’s response sounded diplomatic, trade circles say the real clash will begin only after the films hit the big screens. In today’s box office scenario, opening day numbers are just the beginning and the real strength lies in word of mouth.
If Ustaad manages to get strong positive talk, even the Dhurandhar 2 wave may not stop it given Pawan Kalyan’s massive stardom in the Telugu states. But if the talk turns negative, the situation could quickly reverse as Dhurandhar 2 may fill the vacuum in the Telugu market if it generates the same buzz its first part enjoyed.
With Pawan Kalyan headlining Ustaad Bhagat Singh, expectations are naturally high among fans. At the same time, the buzz around Dhurandhar 2 is also quite strong, especially after its explosive trailer and impressive bookings.
It now remains to be seen how both films perform once they are released on the same day and face the ultimate test of audience reception.
