Tripura’s lone CPI(M) politburo member and party secretary Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday raised questions over the involvement of a third party in the bilateral issue on the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Chaudhury, while speaking to reporters, referred to US President ’s X post that the conflict between the two countries, India and Pakistan, was averted due to his intervention. He also alleged that Prime Minister ’s speech on Monday, hailing the Indian Armed Forces for Operation Sindoor, did not clarify the people’s doubts over Trump’s role in the ceasefire.
“We have seen US President Donald Trump tweeting on May 10 about the ceasefire even before our foreign secretary gave the announcement of the Government of India’s decision on the ceasefire. Question was raised over the issue from the whole country,” said Chaudhury.
Chaudhury’s remarks came two days after CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby asked the Central Government about Trump’s role in the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. Baby had said that bilateral problems have to be resolved bilaterally.
“Our stand, for the government of any political party, always remains that it is a matter of two countries, and no third party can come here. We have been saying several times to stop terrorism, be it in Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, or Burma borders. We are united in this matter – secularism of India, ensuring security to 140 crores of people of the country. We stand with the government,” Chaudhury said.
On Trump’s recent statement where he claimed that the US would stop doing business with these two countries if they didn’t end the military operations against each other, Chaudhury asked, “Has the trade relation with America become big? Ours is a free, sovereign country. It’s a country of 140 crore people. Why do we need to become weak in front of another country? Why will another country demean us about our security, unity?”
Tripura Chief Minister Dr , who also holds the Home portfolio, said on Wednesday that India’s fight against terrorists and terrorism would continue even as the ceasefire has been agreed.
Tripura ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore expressed concerns on the US intervention in the India-Pakistan ceasefire. “Only time will decide if we should always listen to USA when it comes to mediation. There was no such hurry for mediation by the USA when Hamas/Israel war broke out. Regardless we are proud of our forces and will always stand with our Government when a war-like situation arises. I hope we don’t let the Indus water flow like it used to be before to Pakistan. We are Proud Indians and we stand with our nation,” he wrote on X on Monday.
