Days after a “specific request” was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Centre has strengthened the security cover of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and provided two bullet-resistant vehicles as escort cars.
first reported that the have started the process of increasing security cover for Jaishankar following a “specific request” from MEA over the weekend after hostilities between India and Pakistan along the border escalated following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
According to sources, the Police have urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to conduct a threat assessment. “After conducting an assessment, CRPF has decided to give him two bulletproof cars,” an officer said.
“He has Z category security cover of CRPF, which has six gunmen for mobile security, and ten more for residence security. Earlier, there was Z plus, which had 10 security personnel for mobile security and ten others for residence security,” a senior officer said.
Home Ministry guidelines regarding security arrangements for VIPs and VVIPs do not currently have a provision for an escort car and a specific call sign. But after receiving a request letter from MEA, the matter was forwarded to MHA to make the decision.
During a meeting held Sunday by Sanjay Arora, Commissioner, Delhi Police, it was decided that security cover for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and at least 25 leaders from the (), including Union Ministers, MPs and Delhi Chief Minister , would also be reviewed. Sources said it was also decided that firing and medical emergency training would also be provided to all security personnel involved.
