The Hindi film industry has been going through a rough patch over the last few years. South Indian films have been dominating the pan-India box office while Bollywood films are just failing to attract the audience. Lack of rooted scripts, generic storytelling and absence of fresh ideas have been affecting Bollywood. Barring a few films like Pathan, Jawan, Gadar 2, Animal and Stree 2, none of the Hindi movies managed to make a big mark at the box office.
Even 2025 started on a disappointing note for Bollywood. On January 10, Sonu Sood’s action thriller Fateh was released and ended up as a disaster at the box office. On January 17, Ajay Devgn arrived with Azaad and Kangana Ranaut came up with Emergency. Despite featuring big stars, these films failed to become successful.
The much-awaited Republic Day weekend will witness the release of Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force. Akshay himself going through a poor phase over the last few years with single-digit openings and disaster results. There are no expectations built around Sky Force too. The trailer didn’t get a positive response and many people felt that it was another generic patriotic military-based film.
It has to be seen if Akshay defies all odds and scores Bollywood’s first hit in 2025 with Sky Force. Otherwise, January might end up as a dud for the Hindi film industry.
