After Sankranthi Ki Vastunnam, no other release in Telugu caught everyone’s attention. Although Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel fared well at the box office by even crossing a gross of 100 Cr rupees, a section of audiences still have some problems with the film. But then, the trend has shifted, and the Telugu audiences warmly embraced two dubbed films this week.

One is Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama, directed by Dhanush, and the second is Pradeep Ranganathan, starrer Dragon. Both films are currently performing well at the box office in Telugu states.

Both films follow a familiar yet engaging youth-centric narrative. Drago is about an engineering student’s struggles. While predictable, the film succeeds in catering to its target audience.

On the other hand, Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama sticks to a formulaic love story with a breakup and reunion. Though reminiscent of last year’s Premalu, its balanced treatment prevents it from becoming tiresome.

In terms of box office performance, Dragon has a clear lead, especially with over 50% higher bookings on BookMyShow. The mass appeal of Dragon is driving stronger collections, whereas JNAK’s softer tone is slowing its momentum.

However, both the films are expected to break even in no time and move towards becoming big blockbusters. There was a time when the dubbing films had an edge over the local movies at Telugu box office. Now, the success of both these movies will boost the energies of those who come up with dubbed films in the coming days.

Next up are: Suriya’s Retro, Rajinikanth’s Coolie, Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly and many other films.
