The new age filmmakers are very hard to find success, but Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s route is completely different. Surprisingly, he came up with Arjun Reddy and remade it immediately in Hindi. And then with Animal, he displayed the potential of a proper commercial cinema, raising the standards of filmmaking in Bollywood. In the middle of everything, the bitter truth is that Bollywood hates Sandeep Vanga, which he also acknowledges to an extent. Now, with Spirit rolling on the floors, there is a big mess building around the director after Deepika’s exit from the project.
As everyone knew that Team Spirit decided to drop Deepika Padukone from the project, the official announcement has not been made. Either of the parties might refrain from making any statement. The unofficial reports from the team reveal that the reason behind the decision is Deepika’s unprofessional behaviour in asking for reduced call-sheet time, huge remuneration, along with a share in profits, and a big personal team for whom she won’t pay the salaries.
On the flip side, the Bollywood media has already started a hate campaign against Sandeep Vanga, projecting him as the villain. There were some media articles published in favour of Deepika, soon after the news of her exit came out. In all the articles, the narrative is set in such a way that Deepika is a young mother and she needs to give her time to the kid and can’t shoot for the full 8 hours. They also alleged that Sandeep Vanga, instead of understanding with compassion is demanding her presence with strict rules.
Usually, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is not seen speaking anywhere else, apart from the interviews during the release of his movies. Whatever controversies he faced, it is all because of the statements he made during the interviews. Bollywood hates Sandeep in such a way that they made a film on ‘slapping a woman’ just because Sandeep expressed an opinion that he does not see love between a couple if they don’t have freedom to slap one another.
And then, the critics in Bollywood bashed him so bad for his work in both Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. It had pushed him to attempt Animal. Many commented that Sandeep is glorifying violence and just to make them understand what violence is, he made Animal with Ranbir Kapoor. Although it won the hearts of audiences, it was targeted brutally by the critics of Bollywood. There were so many negative reviews against the film. A PR campaign always runs against Sandeep Vanga and it is safe to assume that several Bollywood bigwigs might be working together to restrict the popularity of Sandeep and throw negativity against him.
There was another instance where an actor from Animal was rejected a role in another film backed by a big production house in Bollywood, just because he acted in Sandeep’s direction. Such is the hatred the Bollywood displays towards the director. However, Sandeep’s mindset is such that nothing of this affects him and it hardly does any damage to his mental health.
But, project Spirit might get affected for a while. Until the promotions of the movie begin, the Bollywood PR can speculate anything about the project. The film began after undergoing multiple delays and that can be taken advantage in running negative articles. With the team back to the phase of finding a heroine, more negativity is expected against the team. Even when the film reaches the release stage, the paid media will do everything to hamper the project despite the pan-India popularity that Prabhas enjoys.
Hence, Sandeep has to dodge all this negativity and be in the best spirits to elevate Prabhas’ Spirit to another all-time industry blockbuster such that the hate mongers can never win over him.
