Television actress Shubhangi Atre who is popularly known for her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! is mourning the death of her ex-husband, Piyush Poorey. As per reports, Piyush passed away on Saturday after a prolonged battle with liver cirrhosis. Piyush worked as a digital marketing professional.
Shubhangi expressed her grief as she spoke to TimesOfIndia and said, “Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this.” A source close to the actress said that Shubhangi and Piyush were not in touch at the time of his passing. “She is mourning. She resumed shooting for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai on Sunday,” the source added.
Shubhangi and Piyush tied the knot in 2003 and have a daughter, Ashi who was born in 2006. The couple was married for over two decades before they finalized their divorce on February 5, 2025. In an earlier interview with Bombay Times, Shubhangi spoke about her failed marriage as she said, “It was painful. I was fully invested in the relationship. Over time, Piyush and I developed irreconcilable differences,” she had shared. She further added saying, “However, now that I’m out of that marriage, I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted. I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment.”
The actress also said that they had stopped living together for a year before their legal separation. She even said that despite their efforts to make their bond work, they realized that they were not able to solve their differences. Shubhangi said, “Respect, companionship, trust, and friendship are the pillars of a strong marriage. But sometimes, giving each other space to focus on individual lives and careers becomes necessary.”
