Buddha Purnima Bank Holiday in India 2025: Banks in a few Indian cities will remain closed today, Monday, May 12, 2025, on account of , celebrating Gautam Buddha’s 2587th birth anniversary, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar for 2025.
Buddha Purnima is an auspicious festival for Buddhists in India and worldwide, which marks the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
Bank holidays in India are allotted by RBI regulations, including the Negotiable Instruments Act, RTGS holidays, and various regional and national observances.
According to its calendar for the fiscal year 2025-26, the RBI has allotted 13 bank holidays for May 2025, in addition to the mandatory weekly offs on the second Saturday and Sunday.
It’s important to note that while physical bank branches may close, online banking services will remain functional, enabling customers to access net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services without any disruption.
