Whenever Tollywood faces a slowdown at the box office, the spotlight often turns toward reviews. Many producers blame reviews for their films’ poor performance. The debate is burning within the film circles currently. However, Nani, who is a successful actor and producer, voiced out his opinion in this context. Nani is always the first to voice out some bold opinions, and as always, he had something beautiful to say.
In a recent interview, Nani openly shared his thoughts that it is not possible to stop reviews. “In the past, there weren’t many platforms for instant opinions. But now, with the rise of social media, reviews are everywhere and unstoppable. Who do you stop? Why do you stop?” questioned Nani.
At the same time, Nani had a beautiful suggestion to all those who share reviews. He said it’s okay to share personal opinions like disliking a scene or not enjoying a movie, but reviewers shouldn’t declare a film as a flop on the very first day.
“It is okay until they say that the particular film or a scene did not work for them. But, they should not declare it a disaster right after the morning show. Instead, if the film is really bad, in ten days, everyone knows it is a disaster and they can proudly declare it then,” said Nani.
Nani’s comments reflect a balanced viewpoint. While he understands the reality of reviews in today’s digital world, he urges everyone to be more thoughtful before passing a final judgment.
In reality, the audience’s habits have indeed changed after the rise of OTT platforms. Fewer people are coming to theaters now. To make up for this, producers are reducing the gap between theatrical and OTT releases, hoping to recover costs through digital rights. However, audiences who are used to watching movies at home only go to theaters when a film excites them. Even then, they often decide to watch based on reviews and word of mouth.
Despite this reality, some in the industry want to place a ban on reviews, which is definitely not possible.
