India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, delivered a strong message at the SCO summit in Islamabad, emphasizing the importance of recognizing territorial integrity. He identified three major threats to cooperation: terrorism, extremism, and separatism. Jaishankar stressed that activities across borders characterized by terrorism and extremism can hinder trade, energy flows, and connectivity. “Our collective endeavors can expand resources and encourage investment flows,” he said, highlighting the potential benefits of collaborative efforts.

The minister also underscored the significance of connectivity, stating that it can create new efficiencies and transform the world of logistics and energy. However, he made it clear that connectivity cannot violate territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Jaishankar’s statements come amidst tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He reiterated India’s stance that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always be a part of India”.

The SCO summit, attended by member states including China, Russia, and Pakistan, focused on combating terrorism and promoting regional cooperation. Jaishankar’s address emphasized the need for collective action against terrorism and extremism.
