This summer, the box office has been quiet. On one side, the ongoing IPL matches have affected movie collections. On the other hand, the weekly releases haven’t been strong enough to keep audiences engaged. This week, too, a few small films are making their way to audiences. They are Sarangapani Jathakam, Chaurya Patham, and Gymkhana.
Saranga Pani Jathakam is directed by Indraganti Mohanakrishna, who is known for making light-hearted emotional dramas. This time, he teamed up with actor Priyadarshi in the lead role, and Vennela Kishore also plays an important character.
From the title and promos, it’s clear the film leans into humor and astrological themes. Priyadarshi has been doing well, especially after the success of Court, where he played a serious role. Now, he is back to comedy, which many fans are excited to see. If the initial talk is positive, the film might attract audiences just on the strength of the lead actor and the director’s brand.
Chaurya Patham is another film to watch. Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina, known for the commercial success Dhamaka, has turned producer and started his banner, Nakkina Narratives. This is his first project under that label. The cast is filled with newcomers, but they’ve tried something different with their promotions. It’s a crime-based thriller with twists and suspense.
The third release is Gymkhana, a dubbed Malayalam film. The lead actor is Naslen, known from Premalu. Malayalam films have been gaining ground in the Telugu market recently, mainly when they cater to young audiences. This film targets the same segment. With strong word of mouth, it could also perform well.
Usually, April is considered to be a good time for film releases, but so far, nothing has worked this month. We have to see if any of the above films click at the box office.
