Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava is roaring at the box office. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the actor portrays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the historical period drama. The audience is impressed with Vicky’s portrayal and the way Laxman has shown the bravery of the Maratha warrior on screen. On social media, actor Shardul Pandit praised the movie but had some conflicted opinions on the history and what’s taught in school.
Shardul had said, “I saw Chhava yesterday and couldn’t help but ask my friend ‘Ye sab humne kyu nahi padha?’ Why do I remember everyone but don’t have a clue about the contribution of the great Maratha warriors? Why I haven’t been gloating in pride over a hero like Sambhaji or Shivaji? Why I don’t remember the amazing Maratha rule, the men of steel, principles and value? Shouldn’t we take pride in such great and exemplary Maratha warriors and heroes? Why was Bollywood shying away from bringing them to light? Why were they omitted from my school books or not given the due weightage?”
Later, formet circket Aakash Chopra shared a similar tweet after watching the movie. He posted, “Watched Chhaava today. Incredible tale of bravery, selflessness and the sense of duty. Genuine question—why were we not taught about Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at all in school? Not even a mention anywhere!!! We did learn though how Akbar was a great and fair emperor, and even have a very prominent road called Aurangzeb Road in Delhi. Why and how did it happen??”
In the comments of Aakash’s tweet, people have slammed him as they disagree with him. One person wrote, “Don’t know what school you went to but I most certainly learned about Shivaji in history class over 30 years ago. Sambhaji Maharaj was also there in the textbook!” Another commented, “Sir, did you ever read NCERT? Oh no, when you have age to read NCERT you were chasing your dreams to become cricketer. Now, still you didn’t get time to read NCERT at this odd age.NCERT has glorified Maratha also, books are there in market but WhatsApp messages focus on NCERT only,” one more person wrote.
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is unstoppable at the box office. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, the movie has earned Rs 165 crore at the box office.
