The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the Centre’s nodal agency for responding to cybersecurity incidents, has warned Tata Motors’ iRA 2.0 and iRA.ev mobile applications have vulnerabilities, saying they could be attacked and embedded sensitive information can be extracted.
The vulnerability exists due to the presence of hardcoded service account credentials, API Keys and authorisation tokens within the application package, it said.
“An unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by downloading the application package and extracting embedded sensitive information. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to gain unauthorised access to associated backend services and potentially access sensitive information or perform unauthorised operations on the targeted system,” CERT-In said in its advisory.
The vulnerability also exists due to insufficient validation of URLs and origins loaded within the WebView component, it said, adding that a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malicious web content to the affected WebView.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to perform unauthorised interaction with application functionality, obtain live bearer authentication tokens and potentially impersonate the associated user and access vehicle-related information and services, it noted.
“This vulnerability exists in the iRA 2.0 and iRA.ev mobile applications due to the recording of authentication tokens in application logs used for development and debugging. A local attacker with access to logs could exploit this vulnerability by retrieving and misusing the exposed session tokens,” CERT-In explained.
It said successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to impersonate the associated user and gain unauthorised access to vehicle-related information and services.
“This vulnerability exists in the iRA 2.0 and iRA.ev mobile applications due to improper implementation of SSL certificate pinning in the network security configuration, resulting in ineffective certificate pinning controls. An attacker positioned to intercept network traffic could exploit this vulnerability to intercept or modify communications between the application and its backend services,” it added.
The agency has advised customers to update their apps to Tata Motors iRA 2.0 to version 26.8.2 and Tata Motors iRA.ev to version 26.9.1.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles in a response to businessline said that the vulnerabilities identified in the iRA 2.0 and iRA.ev applications have been addressed through software updates and enhanced security measures.
“In line with CERT-In’s advisory, mandatory updates to the latest versions – iRA 2.0 (version 26.8.2) and iRA.ev (version 26.9.1) – were rolled out in August and September 2026, respectively. These updates are automatically prompted when users open the respective applications and can be completed over the air within a few minutes,” a company spokesperson said.
The update rollout has been completed for all active users, and the company was proactively reaching out to remaining customers who are yet to complete the updates to ensure their transition to the latest versions.
“Our assessment has indicated customer data and vehicle-related information remain secure – with no evidence of any unauthorised access to or compromise of customer credentials, personal information or vehicle-related data. We continue to actively monitor our systems to maintain the security and protection of our customers,” the spokesperson added.
