Amazon said it has over 50 per cent year-on-year growth in terms of shopping volumes during the ongoing Great Indian Festival sale event with over 393 crore customer visits. The e-commerce major said it has been witnessing strong demand for premium products supported by attractive financing schemes. Also speed has been a key focus area, with the e-commerce major delivering one in every two products within minutes through Amazon Now and one in every three orders on the same day.
Aman Deep Lohan, Director, Home, Kitchen and Outdoors, Amazon India, told businessline, “Our shopping volumes have grown by more than 50 per cent compared to last year’s Great Indian Festival. We have also recorded over 393 crore customer visits, translating to 3.93 billion visits. Another encouraging trend is that around 70 per cent of customer visits have come from beyond the metros. This reflects the growing participation of customers across the country, with shoppers from every nook and corner celebrating the Great Indian Festival with us. This has made this one of the biggest-ever editions of the event at Amazon in recent years.”
He added that the e-commerce major has been able to deliver to customers savings worth over ₹2,800 crore.
Asked about the consumer sentiment amidst inflationary pressures, Lohan said, “ We are quite happy with the customer response so far. We are witnessing strong demand for premium products across categories, with customers increasingly opting for products that offer better performance, specifications and trusted brands. Attractive bank offers have also played an important role in making these purchases more accessible with EMI spends growing 40 per cent year-on-year. EMI made up half of the spends on mobiles, TVs and appliances.” Of total EMI spends, 90 per cent was on interest-free No Cost EMI, as 25 per cent more customers chose No Cost EMI than last year.
While premium Android smartphones segment priced above ₹30,000 have witnessed over 50 per cent year-on-year growth, smartwatches recorded almost 4x to 5x growth. Within televisions, 55-inch and above models have contributed to 60% of purchases. In Home and Kitchen, coffee machines have grown by 80 per cent and air fryers by 55 per cent.
“We are also seeing growing interest in two-wheelers online, with customers from 4,500 pin codes shopping for them. This includes electric two-wheelers as well as premium motorcycles from brands such as Triumph and KTM. Tier-II and Tier-III cities account for 60 per cent of the demand,” he added.
On Amazon Now’s performance, Lohan said that one in every two orders were delivered within minutes. “ We have been expanding the assortment on Amazon Now over the past few months. The orders were not limited to just perishables or vegetables but also electronics and home and kitchen items through Amazon Now. Around 25,000 to 30,000 deals were being served through Amazon Now,” he added.
“While the overall momentum has remained strong, the category mix has evolved as we are moving closer to Diwali. In the initial phase, consumers were seen opting for electronics, smartphones, washing machines, Acs and kitchen appliances. As we get closer to Diwali, we see increased demand for home décor, kitchen and dining products, as well as gifting items such as dinnerware and LEGO toys for children,” Lohan noted.
