Murugappa Group materials entity, Carborundum Universal (CUMI), reported a net profit of ₹12 crore in the quarter ended September 2026 (Q2 FY27), a steep decline from ₹74 crore it made in the same quarter last year.
Profit was impacted by an exceptional item of ₹80 crore, related to the closure of operations of CUMI Awuko Abrasives GmbH (CAAG), a German step-down subsidiary. The amount represents a write-down of various assets and the recognition of restructuring costs related to the decision to wind down operations, the company said in its notes. With the completion of required steps, CAAG is now proceeding with the final liquidation/de-registration in accordance with applicable German law, CUMI added.
In Q2 FY27, the company’s consolidated sales stood at ₹1,455 crore, growing 13.1 per cent compared to ₹1,287 crore in Q2 FY26.
Among its business segments, consolidated ceramics sales grew 36.1 per cent, while consolidated electrominerals sales grew 11.1 per cent y-o-y. Consolidated abrasives revenue grew marginally by 4 per cent, the company said in a statement.
“For the first half of FY27, consolidated profit after tax and non-controlling interest was ₹89 crore compared to ₹136 crore in the same period last year. Without the exceptional expense incurred in Q2 FY27, profit after tax of H1 FY27 would have been ₹169 crore,” CUMI said in a statement.
Shares of CUMI closed the trading day at ₹1,079.90, up 4.7 per cent on the BSE.
