Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Thursday said it has crossed exports of 50,000 units of its electric vehicle – e Vitara cumulatively — since the commencement of global shipments in August last year.
Europe was the first market to receive these vehicles and remains the largest export destination, it said adding that in financial year 2025-26 (FY26), Maruti Suzuki was India’s number one exporter of EVs and maintained its leadership position during April-September period.
“Maruti Suzuki’s EV export journey began in August 2025 when the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, commemorated the start of production of the e Vitara at the Hansalpur (Gujarat) facility, for sale in over 100 countries. At the same event, he hailed Maruti Suzuki as a brand ambassador of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Today, Maruti Suzuki exports EVs to nearly 50 of these countries, with Europe being the largest destination,” Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, MSIL, said.
In April-September 2026, MSIL accounted for nearly 93 per cent of India’s electric passenger vehicle (PV) exports, he informed adding that this milestone reflects India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and its growing competitiveness.
A true testament of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, the company has been India’s number one PV exporter for the past five consecutive years and commands over 50 per cent share of PV exports from India during April-September 2026. Maruti Suzuki currently exports 16 models to nearly 120 countries, Takeuchi added.
Hansalpur facility is the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV). The facility recently expanded to an annual production capacity of one-million vehicles, becoming the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach this capacity at a single location.
With a cumulative investment of ₹25,288.7 crore, Hansalpur is also a key export hub, accounting for nearly half of Maruti Suzuki’s overall overseas shipments in FY2025-26, the company added.
