The Chatterjee Group’s subsidiary Cortex DC, which is foraying into the data centre space, is planning to use its existing land parcels to develop 2 GW of AI-ready data centre capacity across India’s Golden Quadrilateral.
Cortex DC, a TCG enterprise focused on developing next-generation digital infrastructure for AI, cloud and enterprise workloads, is planning to set up the proposed data centres over the next seven years to meet rising demand for high-performance computing driven by AI and cloud adoption.
“There is no fixed number of data centres envisaged at this stage. Our plan is to develop 2 GW of AI-ready data centre capacity across India’s Golden Quadrilateral, with the scale and number of facilities determined as the project progresses,” Cortex DC Chief Executive Officer Rahul Sharma told businessline.
“The locations are currently being explored and evaluated, based on various considerations. We will use our existing land parcels in West, East, North and South of India,” Sharma said.
The proposed data centres are intended to serve both domestic and global customers. The industries and sectors served will depend on demand and evolving customer requirements.
The company is targeting operational readiness for its first data centre within 18 months of first shovel, an accelerated timeline aimed at meeting growing demand for AI-ready infrastructure, hypercompute capability and data consumption.
“Our data centres are planned to utilise power from multiple green energy sources, with 51 per cent of the energy requirement envisaged to be met through green power,” Sharma added.
