YouTuber has been detained in Gurugram after arriving in the Delhi-NCR region ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) scheduled protest in the national capital on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
Rathee had reportedly planned to participate in the demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner .
The reported detention comes as CJP founder heads to New Delhi to participate in the protest, despite Delhi Police denying permission for the demonstration on security and procedural grounds.
The CJP has called for a demonstration against Kumar over allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes relating to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.
Delhi Police have denied permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar, citing security considerations and procedural requirements.
The police have also enforced prohibitory orders in the New Delhi area and appealed to people to comply with the restrictions.
Dipke left the Four Seasons Hotel in Worli, central Mumbai, for Mumbai airport at around 6.50 am on Saturday, as he prepared to travel to Delhi for the planned protest.
At the airport, the CJP founder said the government was “scared”, citing what he described as an unprecedented clampdown and train cancellations in the national capital.
In a post on X shortly before boarding his flight, Dipke alleged that the restrictions and action against supporters reflected the government’s concerns over the demonstration.
“(PM Narendra) Modi has accepted defeat even before our protest has begun,” he later wrote on X, adding that the mass crackdown on protesters and the shutdown of the national capital are not signs of strength, but of a leader terrified of his own people.
A CJP functionary said Dipke was expected to reach Delhi shortly.
