Nayara Energy, which accounts for roughly 7 per cent of India’s petrol pump network, said that no supply restrictions have been placed by its dealers.
The Rosneft-backed private sector oil marketing company (OMC) assured of maintaining adequate stocks at its more than 7,100 retail outlets (ROs).
“No supply restrictions have been imposed on our dealers across our retail network. We remain committed to serving the Indian market and meeting the demand for fuel across the length and breadth of the country,” the company, which owns and operates the 20 million tonnes per annum Vadinar refinery, told businessline.
Nayara Energy continues to maintain fuel availability across its nationwide retail network and is taking appropriate measures to ensure seamless access for customers in line with the current demand patterns, it added.
“As the country’s largest private sector fuel retailer, our only priority is to ensure optimum supplies to over 7,000 stations and other channels, including bulk customers,” the OMC assured.
Nayara’s response comes after Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal said on Thursday that OMCs are not allowed to cap fuel sales.
“Nobody is allowed to put a cap on sales, so if they are putting a cap on sale, we will take it up. We will tell them that it is not acceptable, it is not done. In the past also, letters have been issued. So the same thing applies even today. There is no change in the government’s view on this,” Mittal said.
The government’s response came after private retailers such as Jio-bp and Nayara Energy capped diesel sales. While Jio-bp is understood to have capped sales at 50 litres of diesel per transaction per day, Nayara has restricted sales in the range of 70-200 litres per transaction per day.
Bulk diesel users such as telecom tower companies, industries are thronging retail fuel outlets to procure diesel meant for retail users. Retail petrol and diesel prices have remained unchanged since May despite extreme volatility in global crude prices. The OMCs have raised the prices of diesel for Industrial and other bulk consumers.
Jio-bp is yet to comment after the response from the Petroleum Secretary.
