Amid rising power demand, coal behemoth Coal India’s supplies to the power sector rose 10.63 per cent year-on-year to 48.90 million tonnes (mt) in September, compared with 44.20 mt in the year-ago period.
Supplies to the non-regulated sector (NRS) also grew 19.41 per cent y-o-y in September. The company registered a coal offtake growth of 12.5 per cent y-o-y to 61.2 MT from 54.2 MT in the year-ago period, according to a stock exchange filing on Thursday.

With the sustained operational momentum demonstrated during September and Q2FY27, CIL remains well positioned to pursue its assigned coal production and supply targets and continue contributing to the energy security of the country on a sustained basis,” it said, adding with the monsoon season over, coal production is expected to further pick up, along with supplies.
Coal India’s output for the first half of this fiscal (H1FY27) fell 2.5 per cent y-o-y at 321 mt from 329.1 mt in the corresponding period last fiscal. Offtake, however, grew 7.6 per cent y-o-y to 384.2 mt during the period from 357 mt from the same period last fiscal.
