Dairy major Milky Mist has announced the commissioning of its new 10 megawatt (MW) solar power plant at Arasanoor in Tamil Nadu.
This is in addition to the existing 15 MW solar plant commissioned at the same location. The total investment in the 25 MW of capacity at Arasanoor now stands at around ₹110 crore.
With the new capacity becoming operational, the company said that renewable sources meet 100 per cent of the company’s total power requirements.
The 25 MW facility is expected to generate approximately 2 million units of renewable electricity annually and support the energy requirements of the company’s integrated manufacturing facility at Perundurai and its milk chilling centres across multiple locations.
The additional renewable capacity is expected to reduce the company’s dependence on conventional power and help avoid approximately 16,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Since commissioning its first solar plant in 2016, Milky Mist has invested close to total of ₹197 crore for 41 MW in renewable energy generation plants, as per a statement from the company.
It has cumulatively generated approximately 210 million units of power, equivalent to a value of around ₹165 crore.
