Shares of Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABDL) surged over 6 per cent on the National Stock Exchange on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as the company’s co-promoter Bina Kishore Chhabria executed a large block deal to comply with minimum public shareholding requirements.

Chhabria offloaded 55,00,000 shares, representing approximately 1.97 per cent of the company’s total equity, at ₹650.17 per share. The sale was disclosed to both BSE and NSE on September 22, 2026, ahead of a divestment window running from September 23 through October 31, 2026. The promoter and promoter group’s combined shareholding stood at 80.91 per cent prior to the transaction, well above SEBI’s 75 per cent ceiling for promoter holdings in listed companies.
Two institutional investors emerged as major buyers in the deal. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) picked up 15,03,426 shares representing 0.54 per cent equity at ₹650 per share, while SBI Mutual Fund acquired 34,00,725 shares amounting to 1.22 per cent equity at the same price of ₹650.

The block deal price of ₹650 represented a discount to the prevailing market price, a common feature of large negotiated transactions. The stock’s sharp intraday rally suggests the market interpreted the institutional participation, particularly from sovereign wealth fund ADIA and the country’s largest mutual fund house, as a vote of confidence in the company.
ABDL, listed on Indian exchanges since July 2024, is categorised under Breweries and Distilleries and is part of the Nifty 500 index. The stock trades at a trailing P/E of 87.55 and has gained over 30 per cent in the past year against the Nifty 500’s decline of 2.17 per cent over the same period.
