Bengaluru-based Grahaa Space is stepping up its launch cadence after successfully putting its SOLARAS satellite into orbit aboard Skyroot’s Vikram-1, targeting two technology-demonstration missions in Q4 FY26 and Q1 FY27 and potentially three launches by the second half of FY27.
The start-up has already signed two customers for its upcoming missions, co-founder and CEO Ramesh Kumar said in an interview. The missions will help Grahaa validate its optical payload, a key step before it begins building its planned constellation of nanosatellites to deliver near-real-time video data of the Earth.
“The next mission is proving our optical payload. It is the second technology demonstration mission,” Kumar said, adding that once the payload is proven, “we will start building the constellation. There we will sell the data.”
The company’s push to accelerate its launch cadence comes after it lost an earlier satellite in a launch failure. Kumar said the experience also tested Grahaa’s ability to develop and deploy satellites quickly. The company’s target, he said, is to complete a satellite within 12 weeks.
“Our target was to complete it within 12 weeks. That was the actual goal I gave the team. Any satellite henceforth,” Kumar said. “Quick to market is what I wanted.”
Grahaa currently generates revenue through its satellite bus and platform, which can be configured for research, industrial, or academic payloads, as well as hosted-payload missions. Kumar said the company has received several enquiries for its hosted-payload model following the Vikram-1 mission.
Incorporated in 2021, Grahaa is building a compact, modular satellite platform alongside a proprietary optical payload and onboard data-compression technologies. Its longer-term ambition is to build a constellation and monetise the resulting Earth-observation data across applications including defence, agriculture, smart cities and environmental monitoring.
