Major auto components manufacturer, Uno Minda, on Tuesday announced a series of strategic capacity expansion and plant consolidation projects across its key business verticals with a combined investment of around ₹1,415 crore.
The investment would strengthen its manufacturing footprint, boost capacities across key divisions, and cater to surging demand from leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the company said.
“These projects mark another significant step forward in Uno Minda’s long-term growth journey. Each of them is anchored in a clear and consistent principle — investing backed by orders or firm demand visibility, staying close to our customers, and building state of art manufacturing capabilities that are scalable, efficient and future-ready,” Ravi Mehra, Managing Director, Uno Mind, said.
The first project of the expansions includes a greenfield aluminium casting facility at Hosur (Tamil Nadu) with a capex of ₹510 crore. Uno Minda’s Aluminium Casting Division, which manufactures castings parts two-wheeler (2W), four-wheeler (4W) and commercial vehicles (CVs) — both ICE and EV — continues to see strong demand from OEMs, particularly in South India, it said.
With the existing Hosur facility at current location having reached its practical expansion limits, the company will establish a new greenfield facility on its another existing land parcel at Thally Road, Hosur, to create a scalable, future-ready manufacturing base for committed volumes and emerging business opportunities.
With this, the aluminium casting capacity at the Hosur location will be enhanced from around 13,000 MT to 34,000 MT at peak, and it will be implemented in a phased manner over the next three years, with Phase 1 expected to commence production by Q4FY28.
Uno Minda also said the Board of Directors has approved setting up a 3.3 million-unit 2W alloy wheel capacity plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana. This initiative includes the strategic relocation of two-million units of existing capacity from Supa, Maharashtra, to the Kharkhoda plant with an additional capex of ₹155 crore.
This will also be implemented in a phased manner over the next two years, with Phase 1 expected to commence production by Q4FY28
The company said its Board has also approved the expansion of moulding facility in Bengaluru, under its subsidiary Uno Minda Kyoraku, to cater to increased demand. The estimated capex for the expansion is around ₹80 crore and it is expected to commence operations by Q1FY28.
The company’s joint venture with Toyoda Gosei, Japan under Toyoda Gosei South India Private Limited will set up a new plant at CSN, Maharashtra, to manufacture interior and exterior automotive parts, airbags, hoses, and body sealing parts, it said.
“This will be the company’s third plant in India, following its first plant at Bidadi, Karnataka, and its second plant at Harohalli, Karnataka. The project is backed by new orders from customers. The estimated capex for this new plant is around ₹670 crore. The facility is expected to commence operations by Q4FY29,” the company added.
