Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd along with its European and UK-based joint venture companies, will invest ₹11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. An MoU in this regard was signed between the company and Guidance, Tamil Nadu, in London on Monday, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, who is currently in the UK to attract investment for the State.
The investment will create employment opportunities for around 7,000 people across sectors including design, engineering, manufacturing, assembling and logistics facilities, says a government release..
The MoU was signed and exchanged by Barry Painter, Global Head – Marketing and Communications, Samvardhana Motherson International Group, and Deepak Jacob, IAS, Managing Director, Guidance, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Kumaran Periyasamy, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, representatives of the company, and senior officials of the Government of Tamil Nadu were present in the event, the release said.
Samvardhana Motherson was established in 1986 and has been listed at the Indian stock exchange since 1993. The company is a specialised full-system solutions provider and caters to a diverse range of customers in the automotive and other industries across Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Africa. The release also said that EY has committed ₹1,000 crore towards establishing a Global Capability Centre in Tamil Nadu on behalf of a client, expected to create more than 2,000 high-value employment opportunities.
Sigma Technology Group is expanding its presence in Tamil Nadu, further strengthening the State’s growing ecosystem in technology, engineering and digital services, the release said.
A statement from the Industries department says that these commitments span both traditional industrial strengths and emerging high-value sectors, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s ability to attract investments that generate quality employment, deepen technological capabilities and integrate the State more closely with global value chains.
