BRICS Women’s Business Alliance has called for measures that will help women-led enterprises and businesses to scale while enabling more women entrepreneurs to move from participation to leadership across markets.
BRICS WBA, which released its annual report on Sunday, has made various recommendations including creating the right conditions for women-led enterprises to grow by enabling them better access to capital and innovation.
Avarna Jain, Chairperson, BRICS Women’s Business Alliance said, “For BRICS to realise its full economic potential, women must have the opportunity to build, own and lead at scale. Women-led development must therefore not sit alongside the BRICS growth story; it must help define it.”
She added that while women are building businesses, creating jobs, driving innovation, and contributing to growth, the next step is to enable more women entrepreneurs to move from participation to leadership, from small enterprise to scale, and from success in one market to opportunities across BRICS.”
Its recommendations include giving women entrepreneurs greater access to markets, finance, technology, skills, and business networks. The report also recommends giving women-led businesses stronger pathways into value chains and procurement. “Women’s economic empowerment and leadership is not a sectoral issue; it is an economic strategy,” she added.
The report has also recommended fostering of stronger connections between women entrepreneurs and investors, and financing mechanisms that enable women-led enterprises to scale.
“Our compendium on financial inclusion talks about the scalable practices and solutions from various BRICS nations. Women must not only be users; they must be creators, innovators, and leaders,” she added.
The Alliance has also called for strengthening preventive and digital healthcare, climate-smart agriculture, intellectual property ownership, and new markets for women creators and entrepreneurs.
