The BRICS Business Council has called for a supply-chain resilience framework as well as deeper co-operation in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
The grouping brings together 11 key economies representing around 40 per cent of the global GDP. The Council on Sunday presented its report that has made recommendations focused on strengthening resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
Stating that the recommendations are intended as a guide for the four pillars of India’s BRICS Chairmanship, Jai Shroff, Chair, India Chapter, BRICS Business Council and Chairman and Group CEO UPL Ltd added that the BRICS represents “extraordinary economic strength”.
“Recent years have demonstrated the importance and dependability of the supply chains, food, energy, security, modern infrastructure, and diversified production networks. The Council proposes a supply chain resilience framework for BRICS to strengthen information sharing and preparedness during the disruption,” he added
He added that the Council’s report calls for deeper co-operation in AI, digital infrastructure, advancing manufacturing, connecting business, technology providers and innovation ecosystems across BRICS nations.
“Technology is transforming every part of our economies across farms, factories, finance, logistics and energy. Our ambition is not to simply adopt new technologies, but to innovate together,” Shroff said. The Council’s report also emphasises on paperless trade, electronic documentation, and greater interoperability among digital systems.
Stressing that business sustainability must go hand in hand with energy security, affordability, and industrial competitiveness, he added that the report identifies opportunities for cooperation on green hydrogen, biofuel, sustainable aviation fuel, and low-carbon fuels. “Such cooperation must be supported by progress in technology standards, infrastructure, and financing. It can create new industries, value chains, investments, and employment across economies,” Shroff said.
