Pawan Kalyan’s Harihara Veeramallu is shaping up to be one of the most important Telugu films in recent times. After an extended production period spanning six years and multiple release postponements, the historical action epic is finally set to hit screens on June 12. The film’s promotions are currently underway, and the film has a greater significance to be a talk of the town after its release, due to its content.
During the film’s promotions, the film’s heroine, Niddhi Agerwal, opened up about the film’s storyline and confirmed that Pawan will be seen in a role similar to Robin Hood. Set in the 17th century of the Mughal era during Aurangzeb’s reign, the story features Pawan Kalyan as an outlaw who aids the impoverished. Nidhi also revealed that the Kohinoor diamond plays a part in the plot, possibly tying into the film’s historical and political themes.
In such a scenario, it opens a discussion about how history is being presented. It is obvious that the makers will add fictional elements into the story, but it also matters how the historical elements have been presented. There were many Bollywood films around the Mughal era. Therefore, Bollywood audiences and critics will have a special eye on how the film is made.
If the film’s content is appealing, it will surely raise the interest levels and trigger a positive discussion on social media. If not, there will be many debates, and in two cases, it will only help the film reach more audiences, unless it is completely disappointing.
Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and Jyothi Krishna, the film is produced by Dayakar Reddy and AM Rathnam. The film releases on June 12th, 2025.
