Bank Holidays 2025: On Monday, May 26, banks in Tripura (capital: Agartala) will be closed to mark Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary, a well-known figure in Bengali literature and India’s freedom movement. However, this closure is not observed nationwide, and banks in the remaining states will continue to open as usual.

Kazi Nazrul Islam was a recognised Bengali poet, lyricist, journalist, and musician, renowned for his revolutionary spirit, and his writings which emphasised themes such as social justice, human rights, resistance against oppression, spiritual devotion, and equality.
Also known as the “Bidrohi Kobi” or “Rebel Poet”, Kazi Nazrul was a major force behind the cultural and political awakening that happened during India’s fight for independence.
