A day after a high-level security meeting was held at his residence to discuss enhanced surveillance and security along the India-Bangladesh border, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Saturday that it was an “informal” meeting where he asked senior officials to ensure “proper security bandobast” along the border.
Top security, intelligence and civil officials attended the meeting.
“They came informally. I told them to ensure proper security bandobast along the border for the sake of coordination,” Saha said.
An official from the chief minister’s office told that the closed-door meeting lasted for more than an hour.
“It was attended by officers of the Border Security Force, Assam Rifles, and other forces, as well as officials from various intelligence agencies,” the official added.
Asked if the airport would be shut down, CM Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, said at the sidelines of another event, “All measures recommended by Prime Minister , Defence Minister and others are being taken. They have given us the dos and don’ts. All instructions are given (by the Centre) about which airports have to be shut down and what security measures have to be taken. All steps are being taken as per their instructions.”
Speaking about the threat perception in light of the escalating tension between , Saha said, “Threat may be there, but whether we are ready or not is the question.”
Tripura shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still unfenced due to local disputes.
Meanwhile, just a day after the recovery of eight pistols and sixteen magazines at Agartala railway station on Thursday, 12 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Sabroom in South Tripura district and at Shalbahan of West Tripura on Saturday.
