As many as 72 houses were damaged in the Khowai district of Tripura Sunday amid heavy rain and thunderstorm, with no reports of any deaths or injury till the latest reports came in.
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 64 houses were partly damaged, and 8 were severely damaged in the Khowai district. SEOC said an inquiry is underway, and the financial assistance to be provided to the affected persons is in process.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological department predicted a partly cloudy sky with the occurrence of light to moderate rain or thundershower in some areas in the next 24 hours. In April, more than 500 houses were damaged, and two people were reportedly injured in heavy gusts of winds, storms, and heavy showers which lashed different parts of Tripura.
Last year, 38 people were killed and over 17 lakh residents were affected in the devastating floods as the state also incurred an estimated damage worth Rs. 15,000 crore across different sectors, including road connectivity, power transmission, flood management infrastructure, domestic households and public infrastructure, livestock, agriculture, etc.
Over 2 lakh people were shifted to 889 relief camps across the state last year as flood water submerged large tracts of land in all eight districts. The Sepahijala, Gomati, West Tripura, South Tripura, and Khowai districts were the worst affected.
