A day after a video of a 12-year-old girl falling during a zipline ride in Manali surfaced on social media, Himachal Pradesh Minister for Youth Services and Sports Yadvinder Goma said on Monday that the department has taken cognisance of the matter.
The victim, Trisha from Nagpur, Maharashtra, into a gorge with boulders after the harness rope of the zipline snapped mid-way. She suffered multiple fractures.
Minister Goma told reporters that preliminary probe conducted by his department confirmed that the zipline operator was working illegally and had no prior permission to run the zipline service. “Appropriate action has been directed against those responsible. Although the primary authority for granting permission for zipline activities lies with the tourism department, technical approval is required from Mountaineering Institute. In this case, no permission was taken,” said the minister.
The incident, which occurred on June 8, came to people’s attention on Sunday after a video of the accident went viral.
